What is the purpose of a plant tour?

Factory tours are part of engineer career class thing, it's really fun to see modern assembly line in action. We give plant tours to college senior across China, these students are as process engineers or mechanist coming up in next year. During the tours they can try to spend time with the different teams within and around the factory, learn and understand issues like ERP, job control (how things are tagged and tracked through the process), stock management, design & technical sales.  Notice efficiencies and inefficiencies and ask why things are the way they are (appreciate that there are engineering, business and social constraints on systems development within the factory).

It is a good chance for them to prepare working perfectly as soon as possible in workforce.
